ACEIoT student attends the 12th International Conference on Software and Computer Applications (ICSCA 2023)

Marie Ritha Umutoni has, on 23rd to 25th February 2023 attended and presented in the 12th International Conference on Software and Computer Applications (ICSCA 2023) which took place in Malaysia, Asia

During the conference, Umutoni presented a research paper entitled, “Integration of TinyML-based proximity and couch sensing in wearable devices for monitoring infectious disease’s social distance compliance. Case Study: Covid-19”.

“It was a wonderful week! The 12th International Conference on Software and Computer Application held in Malaysia has been an eye opening for me and for our project on TinyML”, she said.

“ I took the road less traveled and that has made all the difference.This conference was a rewarding and enriching experience”, she added.

During the conference, Umutoni got the opportunity to present the research findings and received feedback from experts in IoT and AI fields.

“Attending and presenting at an international conference abroad was a valuable experience for personal and professional growth. It required careful planning and preparation, but I got unique opportunities for learning, networking, and collaboration, and exploring new cultures and ideas”, she narrates.

Marie Ritha Umutoni, is a final year student of Msc in IoT-Embedded Computing Systems (ECS).

The presented paper was developed under the project titled “Development of a smart wearable device for real-time risk monitoring of infectious virus spreading: Case study of COVID-19" funded by National Council for Science and Technology-NCST as one of the outcomes of the project.
