On 18th June 2026, a delegation of academic and administrative staff from the UR, College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) visited the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) to gain a comprehensive understanding of its innovation ecosystem, available infrastructure, ongoing programs, and potential areas for collaboration.

Led by the College Principal, Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike, the delegation comprised Deans of Schools, administrative staff, and lecturers.

In his remarks, Prof. Abraham Haileamlak Mitike highlighted that the main objective of the visit was to explore ongoing research and innovation activities at ACEIoT and identify opportunities where CMHS could benefit from and contribute to these initiatives.

“We are here to learn about the different innovations developed at ACEIoT and explore how our staff and students can collaborate with you on various health-related projects by leveraging these technologies,” he said.

The delegation was briefed on ACEIoT’s state-of-the-art innovation facilities, key achievements in research and innovation, and the impact of its initiatives in advancing technology-driven solutions. Discussions highlighted the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in addressing challenges and improving outcomes in the healthcare sector.

During the tour of the innovation facilities, participants engaged with teams working on various cutting-edge projects and learned about ongoing research activities, emerging technologies, and the collaborative environment that supports the development of practical solutions to real-world challenges.

The Principal of the College of Science and Technology, Prof. Ignace Gatare, welcomed the visit and commended CMHS for initiating the engagement. He emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the two colleges to create added value in health education and research by leveraging innovations developed at ACEIoT.

Both institutions expressed a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration through joint research projects and innovation initiatives. They recognized the significant opportunities at the intersection of technology and healthcare, particularly in harnessing AI and IoT to drive innovation, enhance service delivery, and improve people’s lives.
