Bio:
Pierre Bakunzibake is an Digital Government and Innovation expert passionate about digital and innovative transformation and problem-solving in both the public and private sectors. He is a senior Lecturer at the University of Rwanda; teaching and researching in ICTs, e-Government, IoT, and Information Systems areas. Pierre is a PhD holder in Informatics from the Örebro University School of Business (Sweden). He has a working experience of about 18 years in academics. Between 2009 and 2013, he worked at the Faculty of Applied Sciences at the former National University of Rwanda.
He is currently working at University of Rwanda College of Science and Technology as Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department/School of Engineering (EEE) and Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering, School of ICT, African Centre of excellence in Internet of Things, and the Centre of Biomedical Engineering and Digital Health . In 2021, Pierre worked as a consultant for European Commission on Rwanda ICT Policies and Strategies. In 2023, he participated in the development of Smart Rwanda Master Plan II and Rwanda Innovation Systems Strategy. In 2024, Pierre participated in the development of East Africa Regional Strategy on Innovation in Informal sector—a project by the Caribbean and the Pacific, the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Research and Innovation (R&I) — a project funded by European Commission for East African Science and Technology Commission, (EASTECO). At the University of Rwanda, he supervises PhD and MSc. students at the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACE-IoT) in Rwanda. In terms of community engagement activities, Pierre participated in the development of national strategies including ICT 4 Governance Cluster Strategy and National STEM Education Strategy (NSSES). At the University of Rwanda, he chairs ICT subcommittee at the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology. Pierre is also the University of Rwanda Project Lead of AFRETEC Project- a project by 6 Engineering and Technology focused Universities in Africa (University of Rwanda, the American University of Cairo, Wits University from South Africa, Carnegie Mellon Africa, the University of Lagos, and the University of Nairobi).
