Training on Entrepreneurship for Beekeepers Associated on Beekeeping Cooperatives of Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe and Huye Districts

The University of Rwanda through the African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) has received funds from the Center of International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) to support the a project titled “Smart Bee Hive Technology (SBHT)” under PASET, Africa Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund for Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology.

The project aims at developing a Smart Bee Hiving Technology system for effective monitoring of the beehive and its environment so as to increase honey production.

The project will also contribute to capacity building in technological skills for the implementation of smart bee farming and entrepreneurship and commercialization of the SBHT product.

In the line of implementation of the Project, the ACEIoT organized a 4 days training on “Entrepreneurship for beekeepers associated in beekeeping cooperatives of Nyaruguru, Nyamagabe and Huye Districts” from 21st to 24th, July 2022.
The main purpose of this training is to train beekeepers in entrepreneurship and get knowledge, which will help them to commercialize their honey on different markets. 20 beekeepers were trained. They were very happy and willing to apply the technology in beekeeping and smart Bee hiving Technology will address some of their daily challenges.
The project is headed by Dr. Damien Hanyurwimfura as the Project Investigator supported by other researchers in ACEIoT.
The project is being implemented in collaboration with NARADA LTD and other international partners.
