ACEIoT brings regional scholars to discuss internet versatility

Over 70 African scholars are gathered in Kigali in a five-day workshop organized by the African Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT). The Workshop aimed at encouraging Rwandan entrepreneurs and science students to learn more about the use of technology, which will eventually boost innovation.

Speaking during the opening of the workshop, the guest of honour Hon. Jean de Dieu Rurangirwa the Minister of Information Technology & Communications noted that ACEIoT initiatives are in line with the Government goal to be a hub for information and communications technology. He also informed participants that the adequate adoption of ICT in schools would bridge the gap between the Industry and academia.Hon. Remarks by Dr Gatare, CST Principal
In his remarks Dr. Ignace Gatare the Principal of the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology, said that the function aimed to create awareness about Internet of Things (IoT) and its applications and to provide the basic knowledge of internet connected devices.Remarks by Dr Gatare, CST Principal

In addition, Gatare stated that the Centre has initiated a short course about rapid prototyping in collaboration with WAZIUP, a European Union-Africa project that opens up new IoT technologies for African countries. According to him, the course is designed to give more hands on experiences for building open, low-cost and sustainable IoT solutions. The short course is also planned as Pan-African training in IoT targeting young design engineers from the region.

The African Centre of Excellence in Internet of Things (ACEIoT) is a Regional Center of Excellence that operates in the College of Science and Technology and is one of the four World Bank funded centres hosted by the University of Rwanda.

The mission of ACEIoT is to train multitude of African Scientists and Engineers in the field of IoT, which concerns the foods, livestock and security through the use of sensors.

The main objectives of ACEIoT include building critical mass of African Scientist and Engineers in IoT through higher education and research and setting up an IoT living lab in Rwanda for open innovation and co-creation of IoT4D. The workshop commences on 23rd to 27th of April 2018.
