IoT students to benefit from Japanese expertise in Al

Through Partnership with Future, an ICT company specialized in Artificial Intelligence (AI) supported by JICA, 9 students from The African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things are set to benefit from the online training in ICT with specialization in Al.

This is a great opportunity and falls into the mandate of African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things which is to educate and train African researchers in the field of IoT, who will develop and deploy innovative IoT-enabled services.

It was identified that Practical ICT education and training system in terms of actual business is highly expected in Rwanda, however many ICT educations are provided in mainly university and school but more IoT training is expected for working in real ICT business.

The other reason for this training was the fact that there are little opportunities for ICT engineers trained in Rwanda whereby people take ICT training in Rwanda, but domestic market is very small and they cannot get a lot of work opportunities.

Prof Santhi Kumaran, Director of African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things finds this online course an opportunity for IoT students. She argues that after completion of this course, trained students will be hired in local offices for outsourcing from Japan or introduce them to IoT companies in the world.

Students from The African Center of Excellence in Internet of Things have expressed interest in this training, presented their area of interest and have undergone interview to assess their skills in IoT business.
