Design and Implementation of an automated plant watering system using IoT

This paper involves the design and implementation of an automated plant watering system withdata visualization and monitoring using the embedded networks and Realtime communicationswith a sensor node. The increase in the infrastructures like industries, cars that emit CarbonDioxide which is very dangerous to the Ozone layer, people cutting out the forest, this leads to theincrease in global warming.

Global warming causes many negative effects on the human beingincluding the soil to become drier. When rainfall is not sufficient, the plants need additional water.

Therefore, this project will use some sensors like temperature and moisture sensor that will beinstalled in the farming region. The system will collect the value from the sensor and analyze thecollected data, the system will operate based on the collected and analyzed data. If the soil is provento be drier, the system will automatically activate some actuators that will be also installed in thefarming zone, these actuators will initiate the irrigation for a certain minute based on the soil status. This project will also discuss the design and implementation of the system that will use themicrocontrollers like Arduino which will detect a soil if watering is highly required then theactuators will activate the water pump so that the water will be maintained at the constant level. Therefore, this automated plant watering system will reduce human labor by saving their timeconsumed while watering a big farming zone and it will also reduce the water consumption therebyincreasing productivity. This project can also be very useful in agriculture where this project willhelp the farmers increase their yield. Keywords: Arduino, Temperature and moisture sensor, growing plants, plants watering
