Samson Otieno OOKO, a Master student specializing in Wireless Sensor Networking was awarded for the presentation he made during the online conference dubbed: African Regional Workshop on SciTinyML: Scientific Use of Machine Learning on Low-Power Devices held from 25 to 29 April 2022. The conference is organized by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

Samson Otieno OOKO’s presentation focused on a tinyML based self diagnosis for respiratory diseases.

“This showed me that solutions from Africa can also compete with western ones. After the presentation, I got the courage to apply for a grant from Data Science Africa to implement the solution”, Samson said after being informed that his presentation was awarded.

He added, “ It is my joy that I was awarded the grant and it is currently at the due diligence stages which I hope will be completed soon”.
